Schedule
Pre-Event Wednesday-Thursday
The local Cruiser crew and friends will be on the beach near Pole 6 staking out a big area for the Surf N Turf main camp. You're welcome to join the smaller group and enjoy the quiet mid-week atmoshpere at the dunes. But be warned, you may be recruited to help set up main camp, haul firewood or help with other chores. Each year it seems people are arriving earlier to spend more time with on the beach with their Land Cruiser family and friends. As one Surf N Turf veteran observed "Thursday has become the new Friday."
Friday Afternoon
Most people arrive and set-up camp. Enjoy the beach or explore the dunes. Expect an almost continuous line of Cruisers arriving at the Surf N Turf camp. Join the helpers or the hecklers as motorhomes and tow rigs bog down in the soft sand as they turn away from the beach to set up camp above the high tide line.
Friday Evening
7:00 PM Sand Chef - This is an entertaining contest where participants have 90 minutes to come up with savory dishes and deserts based on a secret ingredient. Enjoy Alvaro's colorful play by play narrative as the creative teams rush to prepare gourmet food. It's a great time for participants and spectators. [More Info]
Saturday Morning
8:30 AM Mob Run - Start your day with an invigorating run or walk on the beach. It's all for fun as we leave our Cruisers behind and hoof it down the beach. [More info]
Saturday Noon
12:00 PM High Noon Poker Run - Tour the 1,500 acre dune complex as you visit the five poker run checkpoints. Join the Mob just South of camp at 11:00 AM to pick up a checkpoint map and purchase your Poker hand entry for $5.00. This is a good time for group photos as hundreds of Land Cruisers gather on the tallest dune overlooking the beach.
The Shot Gun start will be at 12:00 PM. Imagine an Oklahoma land rush of Cruisers heading into the dunes. The poker run will NOT be guided! You'll use a map to guide you to the five checkpoints. The run can be easily completed in less than two hours. The High and Low hands will split the jackpot at the completion of the run.
Saturday Afternoon and Evening
More free time to explore the beach and dunes. Expect to see impromptu hill climbing competitions and big air dune jumping. It's a Surf N Turf tradition!
As always, the local Cruiser crew will provide plenty of wood for an evening bonfire. Finally, there's always night wheeling in the dunes if you dare.
Sunday
Relax on the beach Sunday morning or head to the inland trails and the Pozo Saloon. Checkout the Garcia Ridge and Las Chiches trails before gathering at the historic Pozo Saloon. We're not making a formal run to Pozo this year but we'll have maps, directions and help you form your own groups, these are not guided trail rides.
